GOING HIGH PART I -

I always lose a few fans when it gets even slightly political here. Not only because people disagree. But because people see this space as a place to escape the politics of day to day. But I don’t live in a box. Neither does my music or my heart. OK, for the box thing, this lowly little ranch house’s floor plan is easily drawn using a shoebox as anyone who’s ever been here will attest. But yeah, you know what I mean.

I will not weaponize this disease. No matter what others do or have done.

I’m going for kindness and healing on this one. Because that’s what I believe I should do with my good, human, caring character. And that goes for anyone - I don’t care who they are. That bar doesn’t move because someone proves to be horrible, disagreeable people.

I didn’t say it’d be easy...

GOING HIGH PART II -

ON THE OCCASION OF YOU SNAPPING A PICTURE OF ME AS YOU DRIVE BY

I’ll always wave to the yardman
His house is always on the way
To somewhere I need to be.
We live up on a hill and his truck goes
In all my directions.
So I wave.

The history is this:
He was doing the next door yard
Running three machines
Where the ordinance says only two
The sound was such that when my wife
Spoke to him about it
He was threatening and cruel
Frightened, she deferred to him
But later asked the police to have
A word with him.

So in my bid for peace with him
When I jog by I wave and say “Good Morning”
One day he replied “I don’t have to speak to you
And it’s a better morning when your dogs aren’t on my lawn”
Now I ask you, what fool would ever let their dogs
Roam an angry lawn man’s lawn?
So shocked and surprised
At this lie I said nothing. He continued,
“Your greeting is harassment
Now I should make the call.”
All of that.
And all we asked is that he follow the law
Clearly this ranting raving angry man is
Someone’s broken son.
So I wave.

His brother is a yardman too
Once I chanced upon him and told this story
He shook his head and said
“That sounds like my brother.
Once we worked together
Two as one we shared our name
On the side of this truck
You see first hand the reason why
Now he does his and I do mine.
Good luck.”
Thanksgiving at their Momma’s house
Must be quite the time.
I wave to this man too when he drives by
He always waves back.

A sticker on his pick-up says
He owns a gun
Another offers to help me pack
If I don’t like the way my country’s run
So I would never knock on this door and ask
To speak to a man of reason
So I wave.

And so it isn’t lost on me
After all the single fingers tossed at me
Today as I passed you took
A picture of my gesture there
Yet all you got is two fingers back at you
A peace sign pair
So I wave.

A friend ask me why I let him
Live inside my head and I replied
“Peace and love reside in there
I don’t want ugly to die in there
Plus when all is said an through
He’s thinking of me too.”

So I will always wave
