Coffeehouses A’Folding.

I just had a great weekend’s pair of shows. However I seem to be the Craig Kimbrel of folk. Non-baseball fans, he’s the closer pitcher of note for the Red Sox.

It’s not my fault…

The Moorestown DeCafe at the Perkins Center for the Arts in Moorestown NJ, and the Simple Gifts Coffeehouse in Nashua NH are both rolling up their respective rugs. I was the last artist to play each of these fine houses this past weekend. That’s some oddly bittersweet stuff right there.

Neither of these fine houses for folk are closing because of slender turnouts of patrons per se. Both cite an exhausted team of over-55 stalwarts that want to go out before their great work becomes a bad job, or before they become poor community and friends to one other.

There’s a chance that at each coffeehouse there will find a newly invigorated team to take the reins, but for now they are proclaiming done.

Damn, people. C’mon, someone step up. In any case, thanks to these fine rooms. You treated me splendidly, and gave me an opportunity to give people a good evening. With any luck we’ll see your listings for a fall season despite this spring’s finality.
