Sweetwater — Vance Gilbert © 2008 Disismye Music ASCAP

Sweetwater casts his line
Leaning up against the no fishing sign
Cops go by don't pay him no mind
Like it's always been that way

Sweetwater got that name
Cause when he drop his hook
The fish come running
And now he's got this much preferred spot
And he'll work it the rest of the day

Once in a while some uninformed child
Will make fun of his crippled right hand
When an older one will smack the young one
Upside the back of his head sayin
"Don't you get it ?"  That's:

(chorus)
Sweetwater
Throw out a line
Show me how you do your
Day to day
Sweetwater
Ain't it a crime
The way you got to do your
Day to day

Sweetwater broke up a fight late one night
And took a knife in that right hand
But he saved the life of this young girl
Caught up in a drug deal going all wrong

Turns out she was the Mayor's child
Quite the news item for a little while
I can still see the Mayor pinning that star
On Sweetwater's jacket
And the cameras all flashin.

Sweetwater did a tour
' 51, the Korean war
Still he remains undecorated
Save for that star

(chorus)

(bridge)

Show me how you do it…

"Ain't no secret" Sweetwater says
"Check out my hook – it ain't about bait
You can see for yourself
It's the left-handed cast
Of a right-handed man
That gives me my touch"

And all the fish understand
Hell, they line up just to get
Caught by Sweetwater

And at the end of the day
He'll take the very last one
And tells the rest
"I'll see y'all tomorrow"

(chorus)
