THIS HAS BEEN SOME WEEK AFTER 2 SOLD OUT SHOWS AT CLUB PASSIM WHERE JOE WALSH AND I SLAYED I DON’T MIND SAYING THANKS FOR ASKING:

MY CAR IS IN HOSPICE - Jiffy Lube will not fully service it with oil because the pan is leaking. It’s that and the transmission housing starting to rot. My Grand Caravan, Hi Ho Silver, has requested folks be kind to each other as it is about to pass to the Big Scrapyard In The Sky. Don’t worry. Thanks to you I just bought another. More on that next week.

EVANGELISM - My car repair guys Justin and Paul, Herb Gardner’s post-Vietnam OV-1 Mohawk pilot brother-in-law at Herb’s Remembrance Jazz Jam Gathering, 4 of his grandsons, a drummer, all have fallen victim to my phone videos of building and flying model aircraft. Yeah I get that same glaze in the eye your cousin did when he went to convert you...

WRITE A RECOMMENDATION - 2 students from the college I was fired from for using comic language while setting up classes about creative language are calling me for graduate school recommendations at same said college. I mean, I got nothing here. I wonder if they’d want to build model airplanes instead.

KIMCHEE ON PIZZA - Yea, post-chemo/radiation taste buds are still a mess, so why not. I had 2 slices.

GARY JOHNSON - As I was leaving the bandstand after singing a gravelly Louis Armstrong foil to Abbie Gardner’s magnificent lead vocals on Ain't Misbehaving’ at her Dad’s thing, this white-haired drummer in the pic grabs me, claps my hand, and says “I’m Gary Johnson, drummer - do you remember me?”

My eyebrow went up and as I was about to kindly demur, it all rushed back - black-haired buff him at the kit, his dad Dick Johnson on sax and clarinet, Ron Murray on 7 string guitar with moving bass, myriads of others in line to sit in and play and sing at a Sunday afternoon jam session in Norwood, 1983 - 1985. His dad and Ron Murray’s dad handing me fake books (look it up) of my own to continue learning The Great American Songbook. It all rushed back. I burst into tears.

TODAY I DRIVE 5 HOURS EACH WAY - into NYC to sing 1 tune at a remembrance for Jill Sobule.

Otherwise just a week.
