MLK BIRTHDAY TEXT EXCHANGE

(me, referencing the pic): "I read a bit of this every MLK Day. I used to inflict a few paragraphs upon the girls across the street on MLK Mondays. They’re grown now and really great women”

(Dave): it worked. you groomed them for greatness!!

(ME): Kinda responsible. I babysat one at 3 o’clock in the morning while the younger one was being born. The older one has a degree in choral and organ studies and is now getting a second masters studying for the ministry. The organ playing comes from Christmas mornings over at their house where they had a hand me down piano and at three years old she would go over and plunk out two note chords and sing the top part and we knew music was in this kid’s future, and we begged Joe & Lisa to please get this kid some piano lessons!

The younger one just finished college, is multi-capable at so many things, and if she is on break and sees one of us shoveling, she dashes over and helps or she helps Deborah clean the garage and you have to fight her to take money.

Their dad is the Father Joe of “Up On Rockfield“ off of the eponymous album.

For the past 15 years Christmas morning has been in their living room except for this year because of illness, so we just tucked money in some envelopes and left it under the door. We’ll catch up and "do Christmas" sometime.
And yes, I’ve had those girls over and made model planes with them you damned rite!!

(Me): Getting into heaven? Pffft. Already been. I just wish the flying fields in Geneseo and Wawayanda NY weren’t such far drives…”
