BLACK HISTORY MONTH MUSIC LISTENING LESSON SESSION #2

...is being slightly circumvented as I was going to talk about ultra-soulful Bobby Caldwell and his 1978 hit "What You Won’t Do For Love” and how White he was and how record execs kept his face off of the album cover and out of media and how when he toured with and opened for Natalie Cole how shocked the predominately Black audiences were that this guy was whiter than the guy from Geek squad that just fixed your printer and how audiences 1/3 the way into the song were grooving no matter what and how in 1974 how shocked I was that Average White Band was one of those things and surely not the other two, because I want to tell the story of an elderly, grey, Black man with a printer under his arm bought 43 days ago walking back through the doors at Best Buy:

(Man With Printer): Yes, I called earlier. They said to just come on in. Yeah, the printer head for black ink seems to be...

(Best Buy Asst. Manager): You could have avoided so much by purchasing a warranty that goes beyond the 30 days, and you’re at 43… so it’s really at the store’s discretion whether we take this back...

(MWP): I appreciate that. I’m thinking that with all the business I give you folks you might honor a good faith return on something that surely should be operating 43 days after purchase

(BBAM): All this could be avoided with the warranty plan. You’d be in and out with a repair or replacement...

(MWP): Sir, my time is money too - I had to drive over here when I could have just printed what I wanted and gone on with my day, to speak less of the time spent on repair...

(BBAM): Well here’s an in-store card for the full amount plus tax. Now don’t lose it. And if you wanna, you can just buy a big screen TV instead of a printer if you’d like...

(MWP, slightly irritated): A TV? I want a functioning printer that will last past 43 days without a warranty upsell...

(BBAW with a head shake and a smile, still selling): With that warranty, an extra $60, that's 15 per year for 4 years, we wouldn’t even be having this conversation. What if I hadn’t gone with manager and store discretion?

(MWP, done): Well I guess we”d be talking to your head manager about my leaving here with a new printer. Or the police.
