I’M BACK TO WRITING LAWD HEP US

Sure, after a bout of cancer you’d think a variety of things become “redistributed” in your mind in order of importance and meaning. There are a few things, so I took a very large model plane project and shelved it, starting and working as fervently and intensely on a teenier something else. But no brighter glowing face of god. No huge higher calling. No need to wrestle sharks or parachute from a perfectly good airplane and call it excitement.

Then I realized I hadn’t written anything since March. That caught me a bit by surprise, as I was busy trying to keep whatever voice I’d end up with maybe just barely singing the tunes I already have. I guess I didn’t want to try to write what I couldn’t sing.

Well, I sat down yesterday with the scraps from spiral-bound books, 4 typed out pages of “notes” from my phone. There’s some gold. There’s some stone-cold dreck

“….gun or the target or the bullet or the reason...hunting season”, “Library of tears”, “Wrestle with a rainbow”, are all pretty evocative starts to something.

“My catheter is out

Ain’t no need for no damn tubing
I can finally pay-pay”

Of course the last one need be rapped in Snoop’s voice and followed by “Yay-yahnh”.

Writing classes I’ve been part of say that your writing notebook is as sacred as your journal, you can and should say anything and write it down, and that even Jack Nicholson’s turn in “The Shining” as a possessed writer typing page after page, line after line of “All work and no play makes Jack a very dull boy...” is important.

OK. If you say so. I think I’ll go buy candy for tonite. And maybe work on a model plane.
