WHO GETS 10%: https://supportthesoupman.org - This Southern Massachusetts grassroots campaign started with a gentleman supplying homemade, hot soup to homeless during the cold winter months in memory of his son. It’s their mission "to help relieve the pain and suffering that the homeless experience daily by providing backpacks, socks, gloves, hats, nutrients such as granola or protein bars, sanitary items and hand warmers at no cost to various local communities. It is also our aim to bring greater public awareness to the plight of the homeless. Regardless of their race, ethnicity, orientation, gender, disability, faith, or religion, we can make a difference.”

He’s trying to pay for a second portable rolling shower. Thanks to Joey Dalton, the lovely 19yr old tenor background voice you hear on my eponymous hit "Good Good Man" for the organization suggestion. Thanks Joey.

A FEW WONDERFUL THINGS

~ This weekend sometime I’ll be writing a song called John Prine and Bill Withers Hang Out In Heaven that’s not ready yet. But I wrote this for Mr. Prine when he first took ill: https://youtu.be/9Ovp68OEqxw

~ Out jogging this morning with Bessie and kept this daily promise to myself. To look up at the sky, whatever the kind of day it is. No matter what. No matter how crunched my soul is in my imperfection or inability. No matter the rain or any inclemency. No matter how stalled on a project I may be back at the house. Just look up at the sky.

On this 20 mph wind blustery day I kept my promise to myself at the bottom of Landsdown St. and I was rewarded with the sight of a red-tailed hawk just hovering, not a single flap of its wings, about 100 feet up, facing the prevailing wind. Hunting? I doubt it. Just riding effortlessly. After 20 - 30 seconds of just riding, it would dive down about 30 feet and then pitch back up, wings open, climbing back up, again without a single articulated flap, for another 30 sec or more ride. Suddenly in the same purview was the unmistakeable “W” of a seagull, maybe 50 feet to the side of the hawk, doing the same thing. Then, like some sort of crazy mixed flock competition, they were joined by a noisy grackle off to the other side, actually tailing the hawk, doing the same...bragging loudly but still riding these breeze-delivered thermals. Gosh, that looked like pretty awesome aviary social distancing fun to me...

I was already pretty happy with just living when I rounded the corner to my house, and a neighbor drove by, rolled down her window, and swore she’d happily leave some drive-by ham on my porch Sunday afternoon, and then drove off. Oh My Gracious Lord Who Giveth Ham, this is so good, I need some religion.

Or maybe I already have some.
