one note

When one note will do.

When a single line needs
no shading.

When the speech is short
and solo well-placed words
know the audience is there.

When the page goes unfilled
risking wasted paper.

As the wind-up is shortened
and the follow-through everything.

As the listener is purposely
taken for granted and trusted.

When the distance between
start and finish
isn’t measured at all.

When the choice between
muscle and skin
is bone.

When uncertain is the question
and unknown is the answer.

Then one note will do.
