WOMEN’S MONTH THINGS RECENT (RE)DISCOVERIES

~ Barbara Kessler, Diane Zeigler, Jennifer Kimball - all women I came up with in the early part of this acoustic music scene over this last 30+ years. I got to hear them all at Jim Infantino’s Birthday Party Open Mic a few weeks ago. So y’all forgot a few lyrics. So you’re not really “doing music” nowadays. Pffft. May I tell you that each of your voices was magnificent as I recall it to be, add nuance that comes with experience, perspective, time. An evening of each of you would be such a listen. Thank you.

~ I ran the other night to Meshelle Ndegeocello’s “Peace Beyond Passion” album (1996) and got lost in my own neighborhood

~ I went through a phase in the mid eighties where I had The Silly Sisters’ - the June Tabor and Maddie Prior album “No More To The Dance” (1988)- on cassette repeat. I’m back again.

~ That brought me to Anne Briggs, about whom June Tabor says she "went and locked myself in the bathroom for a fortnight and drove my mother mad.” and learned everything she did. Active in the ’60’s and ’70’s, Anne Briggs hated her own voice and quit. She’s 80 now, and I wish I could find her and tell her that a homie from Philly once again got lost in his own 'hood listening to her sing

~ Monini Dey. Bass. That’s all I got. (shakes head)

~ my accountant Mary, owner of Small Business Aide Inc, is a woman

~ Zeigler Kessler Kimball aka “The Moms”. Hell, I’d tour manage that supergroup.
