HEY PHILLY - CITY WINERY IN EARLY OCTOBER, 10/8 - HELP ME SELL IT OUT

-----------------------------------------------

SWEET, KIND REINFORCEMENT

Rocker Mike Posner has his hands on Unfamiliar Moon. I get to play a festival this weekend with the guys that wrote the lead song on Bonnie Raitt’s new Grammy winning album - the lead singer and guitarist whom played all the other guitars on my new album The Mother Of Trouble, which is getting great reviews.

To be honest, yes, it’s a great career, and yet times I just wonder, being old and all. Yes I’m trying to get a teeny bit famouser. I’m worth it. And i sit here, a stack of publicity stuff in one hand, a sheaf of Medicare sign-up sheets in another, Miles Davis’ wisdom “Sometimes it takes your whole lifetime so sound like yourself” in my ears.

I wonder my worth, then I get a note like this:

" Hi Vance. I want to let you know how you changed my life about 30 years ago. I was college student at Boston University, dealing with the trauma that comes with being a rape survivor. As such, it was very hard to leave my apartment other than to fulfill my responsibilities as a student and to go to work.. During that time, I listened to your music. Honestly, I can't remember how I found you. One night I decided to take the T out to, I think a church on the Brookline route. I was scared but I did it, alone. And for a short while, I was able to sit and listen and laugh, all on my own, without fear. That was the true beginning of my healing. I now am 53, quite healed, studying to be a rape crisis counselor. I captain my own boat here on the Sound, I practice yoga every day, I breathe. And I am a passionately dedicated single mom to two amazing teenagers. I gave birth to my son, unmedicated in a tub to you singing. (okay, John Denver was on the play list but just didn't cut it. I wanted YOUR song playing when my boy was born - and that happened!). I used to play your music for them but now they are onto their own styles. Sigh... Taylor Swift.... My point is, Vance, I want to give you the credit you are due. Your music changed the trajectory of my life. I've seen you live a few times since that first show and always wanted to tell you this story but I'm shy by nature so that didn't work. Here is a very big thank you - to YOU. I'll be waiting to see you when you are back in my area. All the best, J."

thank you all
