That’s all Thanksgiving is about

So I’m about to head out to a dental appointment to either have a tooth root candled or removed. I did a lot of chewing Thanksgiving bits on one side of my face and not the other, and I wanted to dash this missive off before I came home with a dug out jaw and post-taking some insidious drug. Even though this note would probably be even funnier…

I’ll be fine. I have access to health care that many do not. Talk about your thankful.

Earlier in the week I got a piece of mail at the PO box that was mis-addressed. I didn’t notice it until I got home, opened it, and realized that it was a bill for cancer treatments being sent to a place called The Sanborn Foundation. As I didn’t want to go back to the PO sealed it back up, did the whole crossing out of my address and writing “NOT AT THIS ADDRESS” on the front, arrow pointing to the return address, put it in my mail slot for Ed to pick up in tomorrow’s mail.

Then I thought for a minute.

I looked up the Sanborn Foundation and saw that this person sending in the bill had forgotten the “4” in front of the 17. Easy enough mistake for anyone. Maybe easier still with chemo-induced change in acuity, or any other distraction that illness provides. I was about to drop this letter of need back into the currently tenuous postal system, and that just didn’t seem right.

So I looked up the Foundation, got the correct address, taped up the envelope, put that in a new envelope with a note promising a donation from me after this upcoming show.

Now, I know it’s a foundation, and that probably means that their invested money is making some money on and with their money anyway. But there’s a part of the website that says that while they don’t actively pitch for donations, they happily take them. That’s good enough for me. My little drop in the bucket.

So it’s Anbesol on this tooth, another turkey sandwich, then off to the drilling. It’ll be expensive. I’ll be fine. Better than many today. Happy Day After Thanksgiving.
