WHAT: VanceGilbert’sMondayNightAcousticPajamaParty #18 More Philly Sound & Another New Song

Where: https://youtu.be/XhKBaP5lYVI

When: Monday Nite, July 13th, 7:30PM EDT (“doors” open at 7 for community hang) -

Who gets 10%: https://www.odscunity.org - Our Deaf Survivors Center - I’m circling back around to this group, because I’m imagining these situations not getting better (well, none of them) overnight.

Their mission statement: "To provide culturally affirmative support services to Deaf victims/survivors of sexual and domestic violence through education, empowerment, and advocacy; and to promote awareness of cultural and linguistic considerations to service providers working with Deaf victims/survivors.” Domestic Violence is on the rise in conjunction with this social distancing and the isolation that necessarily goes along with it.

I knew this one as a kid, no pandemic needed, so I’m all behind this week’s recipient. Thanks today as before ASL interpreter Jody Prysock and a deaf DV administrator friend of hers for vetting.

Private Webcast/Public Houseparty Things/6 Feet Away Lawn Shows - The lawn show thing needs to be in my geographic area, close enough that I can get there and back home in my car. Pooping is an issue, and sure, I can pee in an empty Odwalla juice jar. Maximum State Approved social distancing protocols will be adhered to. Still, I have 2-3 of these locally coming up, you can do it too. Reasonable rates.
Coaching of songwriting, performance & voice, (SURE - BY SKYPE, FACETIME, OR ZOOM)

NOTES OF MOMENTS OF NOTE

~ So between the lyrical elegance of Jason Isbell‘s “cross-legged on a barstool like nobody sits anymore” and
Blake Shelton’s “chew tobacco, chew tobacco, chew tobacco spit”, I guess there’s some real diversity in Country Music? I’m not sure if that *is* a question or a statement. And please God tell me why do I bother to work so hard on lyrics?

~ I grilled salmon with barbecue sauce. Is that morally reprehensible? Racist? Yucky? Did I appropriate something?

~ I was playing the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas one year that rain was the word. Under the direction of the best management they’ll ever have, many of us we’re happy to play what were to be substantially shorter sets under the covered Threadgill Pavilion, stacked on top of the sets of those preordained to play on this given day. No one complained. But this one performer goes up to the director and suggests that they shorten his set from the 75 minutes he was supposed to do, to 40 or 45 minutes so, that the other performers could be more equitably heard. That’s Michael Smith in a cup.

Here’s his song The Dutchman - https://youtu.be/GaKjfTqYfB8
Here’s another called Dead Egyptian Blues - https://youtu.be/fhilN9BQ4qc

Both of these utterly brilliant tunes were staples of folk music radio when I started listening and thinking “I think I’d like to try to do this”. Michael has entered hospice. I thank him many times over. Safe Journey, Michael...

~ Is it a worthy and potential life saving thing or an arrogant and bragfullistic thing to even mention the two times I grilled fish this week that I started the briquets each time with one match? Is AfroMacGuyver a thing? Is that appropriation? Will Marvel call about a potential new superhero? Or go with one that minimizes his foes by spitting a wad of tobacco at them? And the name of that superhero would be ________________?
