Vance’s Monday Night Acoustic Pajama Party #4, Riley, & Bill Withers
Hi Vance Friends & Fans-
Plenty of rescheduling going on if you’re looking at schedule stuff on the www.vancegilbert.com website.
We’ll see what ends up where.
And Bill Withers. I grew up in the 60’s-70’s to his anthemic tunes. He was the first Black man I’d ever seen or heard, TV or other wise, play an acoustic guitar in pop music. Influence on me...ya think?
In the meantime:
What: Vance Gilbert’s Monday Night Acoustic Pajama Party #4 - Waltzes, 3/4 time, 6/8 time, some of my stuff, and Bill Withers.
When: Monday, 4/6, 7:30 pmEDT,
Where: https://youtu.be/adlYoZOHbBc
Who gets 10%: https://www.odscunity.org - Our Deaf Survivors Center - Their mission statement: "To provide culturally affirmative support services to Deaf victims/survivors of sexual and domestic violence through education, empowerment, and advocacy; and to promote awareness of cultural and linguistic considerations to service providers working with Deaf victims/survivors.” Domestic Violence is on the rise in conjunction with this social distancing and the isolation that necessarily goes along with it. I knew this one as a kid, no pandemic needed, so I’m all behind this week’s recipient. Thanks to ASL interpreter Jody Prysock and a deaf DV administrator friend of hers for vetting.

THINGS OF NOTE
Many of you know about my model airplane and aviation history hobby. As part of that, I moderate 2 aviation history sites, that deal with civil aviation of the past, and I write a column for The Flying Aces Club, our international modeling club, called The Muse. While I occasionally have how-to or historical content in my column, its real purpose is to let the members know what project I have been daydreaming about, planning, researching, and visualizing leaving my hand on its first flight. Some writings have detailed historical roots. Some have modeling math. Some are just daydreams. I give readers the permission to daydream too. I also open the column up to the occasional other person to see what’s in their head when they gaze off into space to consider their next airworthy folly.
I want to share this month’s Muse with you from Riley Niedzielski, granddaughter of Dave Niedzielski, owner of https://easybuiltmodels.com, as transcribed from a video he sent to me. Riley is 6, and she is in kindergarten, and also does odd jobs around the Easybuilt shop for Gramps.
Riley was asked where her modeling motivation comes from:
Riley: “First I make paper models. Paper models of *tiny* airplanes. Then I get the idea, then I make them bigger”
Dave N: "Where do you get the idea?”
Riley: “From the model airplanes I’ve made...”
Dave N: “And where does the idea end up?”
Riley: (a little exasperated) “Well, they just end up..." (points repeatedly to her forehead)
Dave N: "Right in there?”
Riley: “Uh huh.”
Dave N: “Is it right in the center, or is it more to one side or the other?”
Riley: “It’s in the middle.”
Dave N: “I want to make sure I understand that. ‘Cause I’ve heard that brains in kids and women work totally different from Grandpas. Is that true?”
Riley: (diplomatically, distractedly, way under her breath) "I don’t know…”
Dave N: “Maybe it doesn’t matter?”
Riley: (shrugs)
Dave N: "Anything you want to say to folks in the world?”
Riley: (suddenly shy) “Hi! And see you later, alligator!!”
