I’m seeing Pride Month out with this poem. Love to all y’all that love however you do.

I cussed a man out over you.
You say it’s no big deal where you at
and you’ve come to terms with you that way.
That you are gay.
But I’ve known your eyes since you were seven
I know hurt when I see it
In yours and mine

I cussed a man out over you.
His biggest worry was what
your grandmother would say.
I told him it was none of your grandmother’s goddamn business.
Bless my indiscriminate heart
But my tack-sharp mouth meant every word

I cussed a man out over you
I’m not altogether proud of the words I used
I’m not sure it did your father daughter station any good
I’d do it twice again,
just as much for me
I did what I had to do.
I cussed a man out over you
