I knew he wasn’t doing great so I was driving to my model airplane nationals vacation with a stop to briefly visit this best modeler of all of us with a few rare plane books and have him squeeze my hand once to turn the page left, twice for right, like we’d been doing, when his wife texted “I’m glad you’re coming, he’s slipping fast“, and I said I knew that, then shocked by her “No, I mean he’s passing now“ and I got there in time to hold his hand as he died, see Parkinson’s fucking thievery, then tell his wife and his sister thru tears how honored I was to be there as he passed, and how pissed I was that he was taking that full head of beautiful black hair and we laughed and the kind but “I’ve-seen-everything“ hospice nurse was agape holding a carved bird in one hand and a pencil drawing in the other of this man’s immeasurable talent, then I drove on thru torrential rain listening to Al Green, ahead our Geneseo NY model airplane flying field inundated with rain and biting wind until 9 o’clock sharp when Jack gave us calm skies and this rainbow.
