SWANNANOA GATHERING NOTES

1) long loving talk with someone that cleared the air about an egregious thing I inadvertently did - I owned it long ago, still their response broke me, and now here we are a year later. Their response? “You have a safe place with me.” It gets no better than that.

2) the students at the Swannanoa Gathering- you are all asked to briefly try on new coats of being in song and performance, and you never cease to amaze me with your willingness. Know what? That informs how I will dive into my own writing. You enthusiasm drives me to be a more willing, better writer. Thanks.

3) Asheville Regional Airport - Y’all still working on this thing? Wilbur Wright even be like “Y’all done yet?” No cabs or Ubers after 11:30pm on a Sunday? C’mon. Do better.

4) I ran 2-3 miles each morning. . I ran to Randy Newman. I ran to The Isley Brothers. Yeah I went from “Sail Away” to “Who’s That Lady?”.

5) That reminds me - I have a friend who walked out on an Arlo Guthrie concert because of Arlo’s politics being on musical parade. But he loves Randy Newman. Lordy, I do believe some folks “listen” to music shall we say…differently.

6) Okok they’re just a dumbass. There. I said it. I guess I’ll be now apologizing for that for a year. Oh well.
