SOME THINGS

~ Happy Spring and National Women’s History Month

~ So about 20+ years ago I played a coffeehouse in the outskirts of Dallas or Ft.Worth like and this high school-aged woman brought her family and friends and opened for me and I could have sworn it was Kacey Musgraves, but I could be wrong. In any case I read on the socials about how great her new album Deeper Well was. It was really nice, filled songwriting stuff that I wouldn’t have done and rhymes I wouldn’t have made (arrogant songwriting teacher that I am) until the tune “Lonely Millionaire”. I've played this song over and over an uncomfortable number of “omg-if-they-hack-my-phone-and-they-see-how-many-repeats-I’ll-go-to-jail” times. It sounds like I wish I had written it. Just wow. Am I a hypocrite for despising The Stones’ “Brown Sugar” ("…just like a Black girl should”), Lou Reed’s “Walk On The Wild Side” (…”and the colored girls sing..etc.”), and John Lennon's “Woman Is The Ni&&er Of The World” yet I adore Joni Mitchell’s “That Song About The Midway” (“…you stood out like a ruby in a Black man’s ear”)?

~ Anyone coming to the fictional Vance School of Performing and Songwriting(c) would have to take a Rhythm, Dance, Movement class. I don’t care how able your body is and isn’t. Rock the chair. We’re talking Hokey Pokey with added steps. Head shoulders kneessentoes, kneessentoes. Clapping and stomping. You and your body both have to be able to count to write or perform. Period.

~ Do dust bunnies become dust jackalopes? Did spellcheck really correct that to “Jack elopes”? What a great name for an album. Seriously - either Jack Elopes or Jackalopes. Great album names.

~ I have about 3/4 inch of hair, and I combed it. Pretty funny to hear scrape noise then no scrape noise then scrape noise as I drag the comb front to back and it passes over the bald spot.

~ Vegemite sandwich backstage on the cruise = Spread straight-up bouillon paste on bread. What’s wrong with me?
