B IS FOR

Burt
Bacharach, so much of the soundtrack of why I write and sing, leaving me
broken on earth as he certainly wasn’t from here, me
being a
boy growing up in the ’60’s with those ’45’s of my
brother’s always forever in my mind’s playlist,
Beyonce, for putting the dog whistle melanin-free male-maneuvered music machine on notice
by
being a
Black Woman unapologetically owning her womanness, doing one
better
by crooning, thrusting, cussing, and
busting
back at the Mick Jaggers and their hips and their
Brown Sugar like they did for over 40 years
(btw which he lifted from Tina Turner
but I digress),
Bonnie Raitt, who I’ve always wanted to
be, covering her stuff since 1976, admiring her loyalty to the same
band she has recorded with for 30+ years, XO to Nuday, a regional non-profit over the
border in New Hampshire that empowers Syrian women and is collecting supplies and
bucks to help with the devastation of the Turkey/Syrian earthquake, XO to
BinaxNOW for telling me I did NOT contract COVID after a
bumpy flight from Tucson where the guy in the seat
behind me was trying to
bring up his lung through his larynx, leaving even diehard antivax people on the plane
bringing out masks stowed in their purses and pockets
brimming with lint and old tissue,
broken elastic, and remnants of old eucalyptus cough drops from 2013’s Ebola scare,

But that's how I am so far today and no I don’t know the way to Santa Jose
Bumm bumm bumbum bumm bump badump bump bum...
