THANK YOU BERKLEE SUMMER SONGWRITER PROGRAM KIDS

It’s a commute. Parking is expensive. But for 3 days, twice a day, over 6 years, I teach performance to young Berklee College Of Music prospects. And Deb says that I come back in the house, no matter how exhausted, aglow and on fire about passing on the skills of performance to these hungry youths.

I was 1 hour late coming home last night because two young women cornered me after last class and literally begged me to review the performance of their songs after I ran out of time during formal class. I have emails and Instagram messages with videos from students anxious to get a view from me on what they do.

Performance instruction is essential, and what I do, and have done for 30+ years, is in grand demand. And I’ll never be out of work.

These 5 (the 6th is in my pocket so I don’t forget it today) college IDs don’t mean much other than on these 3 days. I’m told I need to submit a hyper detailed pedagogy and class idea to a director to even begin a discussion of me being on staff. No such ask for heading up 6 classes of teens in the college's basement. Hey Berklee, you should be calling *me* about what you need during the rest of the year. You need me. I’m in your basement.

Still I'm aglow because the future of this acoustic performance thing is in such good hands. Never mind these IDs. Thank you, students for being so enthused to tell your stories and put what you’re about into the world. And for Illuminating my worth with your trust, recognizance, and desire. Thank you.
