Jazz Album Update, Upcoming Gigs, and... BRRRRR it's cold!

Hi VanceFans,

I'm coming off of a string of sold out shows in Austin TX and a slamming opener for Paul Reiser at Foxwoods Casino. Two resounding successes from two nearly diametrically opposed sets of audience expectation. I love me, but you knew that...

Then there was the shoveling. Talk about back down to earth...

Oh, and hello to the new additions from NERFA to my list. Thanks for saying yes to joining up, folks. Here's what's Vance Newsworthy:

~ Solo Jazz Album - I have no title for this CD as yet, (suggestions??) but we are all recorded!! Remember, this is a quiet, background listening solo affair, but so many have asked me for this album over the last 35 years. Man, was it ever fun to record.

Here are the songs:
  • Again
  • Dindi
  • For The Good Times
  • Laura
  • Mas Que Nada
  • 'Round Midnight
  • Ain't Misbehavin'
  • The Nearness Of You
  • Prelude To A Kiss
  • I'm Beginning To See The Light
  • I'll Buy You A Star
  • When Sunny Gets Blue
  • Moonlight In Vermont
  • Weaver Of Dreams

Mixing is next with the fabulous Sean Staples, and in the meantime I'll be doing artwork with Jane Hallman. Nope, no originals, no other instruments. Voice, guitar, hardly no overdubs

~ WLF (World's Laziest Fundraiser) -  So the door for donations to the World's Laziest Fundraiser for this CD closes in about 10 days.
WLF = you give money = your name on the CD alphabetically = $2 to $500 or any amount = you get a CD if you ask and probably a download.
How lazy is all that? Send PayPal to rubberscaleairlinerboy@gmail.com or just write there for my office address.
Among recent thank you's for donations go to Betsy, Jeremy & Shannon, Fred. Thanks folks.

~ Private voice, performance, songwriting, guitar coaching - When I come through your town, or when you are in mine, or via Skype. Info here rubberscaleairlinerboy@gmail.com if you are so inclined. Mostly Wednesdays, some Thursdays, only a few slots still open.

~ Gigs - Yeah, I'm working:

Friday 2/20, Fall River MA
Narrows Center for the Arts
16 Anawan Street
Fall River, MA
Co-headline with Dave Bass

Well, this should be a fun experiment! Dave Bass is a pretty premiere West Coast jazz pianist, writer, and composer, who seems to have Phil Woods show up on his albums and sessions. That's not shabby. Look here, VanceFan, even if you are not a big fan of Jazz, this oughta be a great night. I open the evening. There may be collaboration, I don't know, but yeah there will be a nice big Vance set. Come out and support something a teeny bit different?

Last time I was here was 2009, and we had a great time. I love this room and the folks that produce this show. We're right off Lake Ontario, north of Syracuse. Rochester, Buffalo, Albany folks? Will I see you?

Sunday 2/22, Ithaca, NY
BOUND FOR GLORY RADIO SHOW, WVBR, Ithaca, NY
Café at Anabel Taylor Hall
Cornell University 957-B Mitchell St

Live broadcast with audience

I love making the venerable and historic Phil Shapiro and his staff of volunteers laugh at this show. I seem to get a wacky streak and play anything. And the price is right, as this show is FREE!!

Friday 2/27, Schenectady NY
A Place For Folk Concert Series
Unitarian Universalist Society of Schenectady
1221 Wendell Avenue
Schenectady, NY

I checked the website for this show and the performance space looks disbelievingly beautiful. I can't wait.

I also have a kid I'm mentoring opening for me here, Annika Scillipote

She's about 17, and you should imagine Adele and Shawn Colvin's lovebaby on vocals, John Mayer's guitar playing, and writing far beyond her years - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UP_FecRv0mk. I'm happy to be working with her now, because she won't be in the auspices of this folk scene for long...

Friday 3/13 thru Sunday 3/15
Provincetown MA
Cape Cod Songwriter's Retreat

There's like 2-3 places still open for this fabulousness that David Roth has finally invited me to teach at!! Me, him, Sloan Wainwright, Penny Nichols. We're great teacher/coaches, nice people, and the retreat setting is all you could ask for in the midst of this winter's barrage. You'd better hurry, because this event fills up last minute.
